Fate VS coincidence

Posted on Updated on

The age old question…are things fate or coincidence? I have had many things in life happen that make you question. However, I do not believe in coincidence. I believe you are where you are suppose to be. I believe things happen the way they are suppose to happen. You tell me….

When a family member was diagnosed with brain cancer, the neurosurgeon said “Be grateful it’s not an Addison’s tumor. They are the most dangerous.” About 8 years later I walked in to the same surgeon and said “I have an Addison’s brain tumor.” After looking at all of the reports, he said he only knows of 2 others in the entire country (Canada) who has one as it is so rare. I said I know and asked if he remembered what he had said 8 years earlier to my family member. He just about fell over. He remembered telling my family that as he said he had never told anyone that in his life and he didn’t even know where it came from. He had never said it again. He said he had just looked at our family who seemed so desperate for some hope and that’s what he said. He thought it would give us some comfort and hope at the time and he could not believe that the one family he has ever said that too, that the same family would walk into his office and actually have this type of tumor as it is the most dangerous and rare tumor….. and yet now I have one……..Fate or coincidence?

As soon as we accept that we are where we are suppose to be and the things that are happening are suppose to be happening to us, we can be excited and enjoy life. Celebrate everything as it’s what makes you YOU!

Truly Living

Posted on

What does it mean to truly live? When most people go through a challenge or have a problem, a comon answer to the question “How are you?” is answered by “I’m living.” I’m living????? We should not just live. We should truly live. We should defy all odds. We should listen only to what’s in our hearts, our minds, our guts. We should listen only to our Hero Within. Living with what I live with every day, doctor’s have tried to tell me how to live. What I can and can’t do. I have been a little bit of a daredevil my entire life and suddenly I am not suppose to do anything that would cause that “thrill/fear/intense nervousness” feeling….really? That’s no way to live. I live how I want. I learned to surf (or so I try), I have jumped off cliffs and into little rivers, I have gone extreme quading….if I have wanted to, I have. That is truly living. Truly living is living life to the fullest. Not allowing others, doctor’s or not, to tell you how to live. It’s full filling what’s inside and allowing yourself to feel complete. Listen only to your hero within and live on your own terms….truly live!

Everything in life is a choice. Some may disagree with me but just hear me out. Wether you live a good or bad life, wether you get up in the morning, what you do during your day and night, who you love, where you live, what you do….everything is a choice. If you have two broken legs and a friend calls you to go play basketball, you can play in a wheelchair…..It’s a choice! It may not be the same as before or as easy as what it was and it may be very different from what you’re used to but you can still choose to do and be the way you were. I live with an extremely rare illness and a brain tumor. I endure a minimum of 14 different symptoms per day from memory loss, extreme fatigue, pounding headaches, horrific visions, massive leg pain, the list goes on and on…..Most people who meet me would never know I have what I have and that I have an inoperable brain tumor that almost claimed my life one year ago. When people learn about it, the usual response is “WOW! How do you get out of bed in the morning? I know I wouldn’t.” Here’s what I tell them……”IT’S A CHOICE!!!!” When I wake up more tired than when I went to bed, when my legs hurt so much that the thought of walking to the washroom is dreadful forget the actual act, when my head is pounding..I simply make the choice. I make the choice to get up, enjoy my day, truly live that day all day through. I choose to get up and be a mom. I choose to get up and be a wife. I choose to get up and be a friend. I choose to get up and be a business owner and go in a run our businesses. I choose to be me and live my life. It all starts with a choice….for me it’s the choice to get out of bed or not and live. Everything is a choice. Make no excuses and simply choose what you want and you can have it. CHOOSE TO LIVE YOUR LIFE!

Writing a Book

Posted on Updated on

As most of you know, I am currently co-authoring a book with other women and one man. Most people think it’s so exciting and awesome. Although I do not disagree and this has always been a dream, have you ever written something that has never been written before? Have you ever written something that has never been told before? Have you ever tried to sit down and write your life story? When first writing I felt liberated, accomplished, excited, everything one should probably feel when about to co-author a book and fulfill one of their dreams. But once you write it then send it to the writer….once you hit the “send” button, all of those great things you were feeling suddenly turn into jaw dropping, sweaty, nervousness, Oh My feelings throughout your entire body. I have told my story many times, but I TOLD it. I got to choose who I told and who heard it. Once it is in written form, I don’t get to control who reads it. I don’t get to see their reaction. They don’t get to hear and feel my emotion. I simply don’t know them yet they know so much about me. There are things in the chapter I have only ever told my husband and now for the world to see. Why? Because those things have made me who I am today. They have helped become the strong woman I am today with a great marriage, a successful business and career path and so much more. Those things are what helped me discover My Hero Within!

Life’s Attitude

If all of us could truly live for how we feel and what we care about and not what others think or feel, our lives would be so much greater. This is how we should live:

“I don’t have an amazing figure or a flat stomach. I’m far from being considered a model but, I’m ME. I eat food. I have curves. I have more fat than I should. I have scars because I have a history. Some people love me, some like me, some hate me. I have done good. I have done bad. I love my Pj’s and I go out without make up and sometimes don’t get my hair done. I’m random and crazy. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not. I am who I am, you can love me or not. I won’t change! And if I love you, I do it with my Heart. I make no apologies for the way I am.”   -ilovemylife.

Why I started This Blog

Posted on

Good morning to everyone! I wanted to take a minute and let everyone reading understand why this Blog was created and where the name “Hero Within” came from. Just like many of you, I have been through my share of challenges in life. I grew up with an abusive alcoholic step-father, have been in a car accident, have had a horrific house fire and left homeless with two kids, have a daughter with a failing kidney, have battled AND CONQUERED cancer, had my best friend commit suicide and I was blamed by many, I currently live with a very rare illness and have a brain tumor. These are just a few of the many things I have been through. I do not believe or proclaim to have gone through more than anyone else, however, it is how I lived through each one and currently live today which may differ. See, I do not believe that what we are going through or what we have today defines who I am or dictates how I live. It is a choice. Everything in life is a choice. You can choose to let things bother you, frustrate you, depress you, sadden you, anger you, OR NOT! Believe it or not, you control your own mind. BUT YOU MUST CONTROL IT, or it won’t happen. I refer to this as my “Hero Within.” It’s that voice deep down inside me that tells me I want to be happy and have fun even in my most terrible moments. Your inner hero is the side of you that doesn’t quit no matter what. It’s the voice inside your head that tells you to do something even when everyone else tells you not to. It’s the deep down pit of your stomach feeling that says “GO for it. You can do it.” It’s the feeling of excitement and pride with yourself for doing something that no one thought you could do. It’s the feeling you get for thinking about achieveing something great and it encourages you to do it. It’s the belief inside you that you are great, you are worthy, you are someone, and you can and will do great things. Your Hero within is all of these things wrapped into one little fire ball that constantly stirs around in your body and mind. It flows through your veins like blood close to the surface so others can almost see so they know it’s there but it’s hidden just enough that it’s your powerful secret. Your hero. It’s the constant thing inside you that provides doubt when people say you can’t achieve something or you are less than perfect or great. If you can find this hero within, as you do have it, then life will never be the same. You will never go through life with a challenge again but rather a challenge with go through your life.

My goal is to help so many around the world going through a challenge or have a problem they simply can’t seem to overcome or feel like they are desperate. I want people to realize they are their own hero and can overcome anything AND  truly LIVE through anything.

Change Your Vocabulary to Change Your Life

Posted on Updated on

Take the words “Problem” and “Challenge” out of your vocabulary and see what happens. Instead of “I have a problem…” or “I have a challenge…” USE “I need a solution…..this is the situation….” and see what miracles you overcome that you never thought possible.

When you tell people you have a problem or challenge, they respond with things like, “I’m so sorry.” “That’s terrible.” ETC….BUT if you say “I need a solution…” They will give you some. There’s no feeling sorry for you and suddenly you have all kinds of solutions to what you THOUGHT was a problem but really wasn’t!!!!
